Adventure Golf A Fun Way for Kids to Learn New Skills

Adventure Golf: how it benefits your children – and tips for a fun day!

Adventure Golf is an exciting way to spend time with family and friends in a fun environment that can be as relaxed or as competitive as you want it to be! Not only is it hugely entertaining but it also offers a platform for learning, making it particularly engaging for kids as they navigate through imaginative and skill-enhancing courses.

Also known as mini-golf or crazy golf, Adventure Golf features creative and immersive themes ranging from dinosaurs, pirates and beaches to marine life and science fiction. Each hole in Adventure Golf is designed to fit into the overarching theme, providing a unique and enjoyable experience for players.

Benefits of Adventure Golf

Promotes physical activity

Miniature golf is a fantastic way to encourage physical activity in kids. Unlike traditional sports that may require intense physical exertion, miniature golf offers a more accessible option. The game involves walking, bending and swinging, promoting motor skills development and overall physical fitness.

The varied obstacles on the course add an element of fun, making it an enjoyable way for kids to stay active without feeling pressured. This not only contributes to their physical well-being but also establishes a positive association with exercise from a young age.

Develops social skills

Adventure golf courses serve as social hubs, bustling with families and children. This environment creates an ideal setting for kids to interact, fostering the development of essential social skills. Through playing mini golf, children learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship, cooperation and following rules. Taking turns and respecting others’ playtime builds self-control and perseverance. Healthy competition among kids enhances communication skills, promoting a positive and cooperative atmosphere. The shared experience of mini golf becomes a platform for social growth and interaction.

Learning benefits

Beyond the fun and games, children can benefit from the hidden educational side of miniature golf. The game encourages the use of maths skills as children calculate their scores at each hole – an ideal practice for quick mental maths without them really realising it. The varied designs of each hole, complete with obstacles, stimulate creative thinking as the children use strategies to overcome the challenges to complete the game.

Mini golf also contributes to the development of cognitive skills such as hand-eye coordination, balance, concentration, decision-making, and problem-solving. In this way, a simple round of adventure golf becomes a holistic learning experience for children.

Strengthens family bonds

Adventure golf is more than just a recreational activity: it becomes a shared experience that strengthens family bonds. Parents who play mini golf with their kids create opportunities for quality time together. The game’s inclusive nature allows everyone, regardless of age, to participate and enjoy the experience.

As families navigate the courses, they not only have fun but also enhance their communication and understanding. Mini golf becomes a tool for parents to connect with their children, fostering confidence and the joy of learning something new. The entire family can reap the benefits while creating lasting memories.

Types of miniature golf courses

Traditional courses

Traditional miniature golf courses provide a classic yet enjoyable experience for players of all ages. Featuring timeless windmills, bridges, and challenging holes, these courses are a staple in the miniature golf world.

The focus is on skill and precision, offering a straightforward yet entertaining game. With flat putting surfaces and familiar designs, traditional courses provide a nostalgic and family-friendly setting. Players navigate through various obstacles, showcasing their putting skills.

For those seeking a timeless and uncomplicated round of mini golf, traditional courses offer a charming and accessible option, creating a welcoming environment for both beginners and seasoned players.

Themed courses

Themed miniature golf courses, such as the two 18-hole courses at Good Time Golfin – called the Eruptions Course and the Cascades Course – elevate the mini-golf experience by immersing players in imaginative settings. These courses go beyond the conventional, offering unique and captivating environments.

The Eruption Course is dinosaur themed, and players navigate around a towering 6-meter-high volcano which may or may not erupt as you pass – adding an element of excitement and challenge! It also offers the thrill of avoiding dinosaurs on the prowl for a tasty snack, turning each hole into a mini adventure. The Cascades Course takes players through a secret cave under a waterfall and leads them around a course full of surprises! Themed courses transform the game into a multisensory experience, making each round not just a game but an adventure.

Tips for playing miniature golf with kids

Keep it fun and light-hearted

Miniature golf is all about enjoyment. Keep the atmosphere light-hearted, emphasising fun over competition. Encourage laughter and celebrate both successes and near misses to foster a positive and relaxed environment that makes the experience memorable and enjoyable for your children.

Encourage kids to try different techniques and strategies

Adventure golf gives kids a chance to explore different putting techniques. Encourage them to experiment with grips, stances, and angles, promoting a sense of curiosity and discovery as they develop their own unique playing style.

Use the game as a teaching opportunity

Subtly discuss the concept of angles and trajectories as kids navigate the course. Use the scoring as a simple maths lesson, enhancing their numerical skills. Through these discrete teaching methods, mini golf becomes an engaging educational activity, blending fun and learning seamlessly.

The golf experience itself is absolutely great – it’s a lot of fun, especially with a group of friends. That part definitely deserves a full five stars. Unfortunately, I have to take off two stars due to very poor customer service. We ordered four beers. After a few minutes, a staff member came upstairs to inform us they had run out of IPA and asked if we’d like something else. No problem – we chose different drinks. And that’s where things went wrong. We ended up waiting nearly 50 minutes for our order. We asked the same staff member several times how long it would take, and he kept saying “one minute” without any real follow-up.Eventually, I went downstairs to check on our order, only to be told by another staff member that she couldn’t find it (despite the fact we had already paid).I went back upstairs and spoke to the same guy again, but he kept repeating “one minute” and didn’t seem concerned at all. Meanwhile, new customers were arriving, getting their food and drinks, and we were still left waiting. The only person who actually resolved the situation was a Polish staff member we approached later – she handled it quickly and efficiently within a few minutes.Overall, the service from the rest of the staff was disappointing – disorganised, lacking care, and showing very little awareness of the customer experience.

Went for a networking event and it was really good fun! The driving range had a variety of games which kept it interesting, and the outdoor mini golf was great and well maintained! I'd definitely go back with family and friends!
